Our current curriculum

We do things very simply here. Math, reading and writing are the building blocks. Science and history are done but not to the same scale, and then Art, cooking, life skills, are scattered through out.

Here is our breakdown

  • MATH: Math U See (Beta for Monster, 2nd and Delta for Monkey, 4th) and Prodigy app (Free and grade level appropriate)
  • WRITING: Spelling You See Wild Tales (2nd grade, animal facts) and American Spirit (4th grade, Historical figures). I am not a fan, it doesn’t seem to be doing much for them so we are switching to something new next year.
  • READING: This year we have focused on Books that have been turned into Movies. Hidden Figures, One and Only Ivan, Black Beauty, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. We watch the movie after and compare them.
  • SCIENCE: R.E.A.L. Science Odyssey Biology Level 1. I love this curriculum. Lots of hands on and the supply list is in the front so you know exactly what you need. Not a ton of prep work either but very informative and interactive!
  • HISTORY: We used an old Va History textbook which was great. Next year we are switching it up a bit.
  • ART: Art for Kids Hub on YouTube is most used. Plus we also have been experimenting with string art and pour art.
  • Economics/Civics: The Tuttle Twins both the book series and workbooks and the weekly curriculum

Math, reading, and writing are done on a daily basis. Others are done on a rotating loose schedule as they naturally come up, while we are in the car (poscasts), when they have a question, etc. We are very relaxed and only formally school a couple hours a day.
