Life is all about seasons. Right now a lot of people happen to be in a rough season with the pandemic hitting so fast and hard. In our world though, we have a big dream. Not one we are going to share quite yet, but in order to make that dream a reality, our priorities have to shift. Which means our cash needs to be prioritized differently. One of the downsides to only one traditional income.
As we are changing this outlook and priorities, I did what I always do… I turned to books. It started with books like “You Are a Badass” by Jen Sincero and “Girl, Wash Your Face” by Rachel Hollis. Then “Live Your Life, Not Theirs” by Rachel Cruze was recommended to me by one of my besties. She was going through something similar. Things just needed to change. Kids and house and all that entails just eats away at cash and all of the sudden you are wondering where it all went.
Rachel Cruze, for those of you who don’t know, is Dave Ramsey’s daughter. Yep, that Dave Ramsey (Total Money Makeover, Financial Peace University, Cash Envelope system, etc.) She follows a lot of his same principles but her message resonates with Gen Y – Millennial age, even Gen Z. After reading the book, something changed for me. I was motivated. I still am 2 months later and we have already started implementing changes in our life but I am so excited because the next step is the cash envelope system. We won’t be following the Ramsey Solution Principles fully but I manage most of the finances and anything not paid online will be put into cash.
The basic principle is that if you pay for something in cash you value it more. Physically handing over the cash is more emotional. So each pay period, you pull out enough to pay for anything you buy in each category. Groceries, medications, pet supplies, hair cuts, Dr visits, car maintenance, etc. all get their allotted cash amount put into an envelope and when your cash for that category runs out, you are done for the month unless you take cash from somewhere else. Now you could use any old envelope or paper clips or whatever. I am sure they will work. But using something that is pretty and aesthetically pleasing is so much more fun.

So when your friend says she is making cute envelopes for herself, you get in on that action… and then you add your own flair to them! Labels in a beautiful White Opal (I wish pictures did it justice) in a cute script font. Check them out! My personal favorite colors and my branding colors. She did awesome and they fit perfectly in my Damsel in Defense wallet!

Want a set for yourself? Be sure to go over to Haruko Designs * and message me for details! Get the envelopes from me but fulfilled by her in sets of 6 for $15. Add labels in solid colors for $3/6 or $4/6 for premium colors/patterns. Ready made sets will be available soon but custom orders will be accepted and take priority!

Interested in living your best life? Keep following the blog. You will see fun projects I do on my own and with the children, follow along on our (modified) journey to debt free, Homeschooling and attempting domesticity. It won’t always be as pretty as these envelopes but it will be real.
